Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. It just depends on what you like to photograph. Some people like landscapes, others animals. There are many categories in picture taking. Check out what kind of categories there are. At a recent photography competition, we heard that judges liked a certain type of picture. We didn’t know that. Next time, it may be well worth studying ahead of time who the judges are and what they like to see.
I’ve taken pictures for years. Some were great, and some didn’t have any excitement at all. It’s those pictures you keep coming back to and staring at that may have greatness in them.
I put those visually arresting pictures in a special photo album. If these pictues “wow” me, they may also have an impact on others. These “wow” pictues were taken with much more thought.
One item I focused on with these pictures was lighting. What time of day do you take pictures? Early morning or at dusk when the sun casts shadows along landscapes and upon various objects of interest gives pictures a unique look. Getting up at sunrise, especially when a few clouds are in the sky, is very rewarding. Not only are there shadows, but sky colors of magnetas and purples enhance photo quality and interest. When taking pictures inside, lighting should be the first consideration.
Using a tripod is another way to make a difference in photography. You may think tripods are a pain to carry around. Like it or not, it is more professional. No matter how steady you may think your hands are, tripods will always win out. Get a tripod that is easily collapsible, sturdy, but light weight.
What else makes a different in your photos?
1. Your excitement and willingness to take many, many pictues is a start. It’s nice to have a digital camera so taking hundreds of pictures isn’t as expensive.
2. Listen to what people have to say. Accept their criticisms. Don’t think you have the greatest pictures out there. You may not. Keep working to make that picture better.
3. Learn as much as you can along the way. Keep on the look out for photography books. Take time to study photography.
4. Use the pictures. Don’t just let them hide away in a photo album. Frame them, then hang them on the wall, or give them as gifts. Submit them to photo contests and/or magazines so others can see your work.
Try these tips on photography. Soon you will see a difference in your photos.
