What is it they say about a good photographer? That a good photographer doesn’t need to retouch his/her photos. However, for the most of us this isn’t the case. Firstly you need to start by choosing a model that inspires you. Next you need to think about the application of makeup. This is very important and could very well mean the difference between a good and a bad shot. Not all women know how to put their makeup on even more so, to put photographic makeup on. Keep it simple. Always apply an oil free liquid foundation first and seal it with an oil free power foundation. If you use a shade too light or too dark for the subject’s skin you could be in trouble. Apply a heavier than normal film of blush to the cheek bone as the lighting and camera can take away from the strength of the color. Make sure you have properly blended it across the cheek with a makeup brush.

Do not use shimmer dust, glitter or anything sparkly. This can distort your image, add speckles and detract from a clean image. Eye makeup can be applied as usual however, just remember that you can darken the eyes for photography as the camera doesn’t pick up everything the way the human eye does. When you have a roll of a hundred images or so, pick up to five of your best/favorites. Ask your friends, colleagues and who ever else you can think of to pick their favorite and by the end of this process you will have a majority vote on the best image.
So now you have you image you need to edit it. Photoshop has come along way over the years and is now the best photographic tool we use. For flawless skin I recommend the Kodak DIGITAL GEM Airbrush Professional Plug-In’, for ADOBE PHOTOSHOP is an excellent photographic tool for professional photographers. You can buy this plug-in at: www.asf.com. The only downfall with this product is that it is delivered to you digitally. You can purchase it online and have it installed and ready to use instantly however, the download provides you with only one serial number and costs 118 Australian dollars. So if you reformat your computer or want to use it on more than one computer you can’t. I found that you can contact the developers and request another serial number but still they are reluctant to do so. Just be sure when using it to keep your images as their original size as after downsizing, the filter doesn’t work with fewer pixels. Use ALT to select the eyes and mouth, hands, ears and sometimes even the nose so as not to airbrush the image too much. When you airbrush the whole image the features disappear. Whereas the Kodak airbrush filter has its down side I do find it to be the best purifying airbrush filter I’ve used.
