Minnesota Photography ? Looking Deep into the Land of Sky-Blue Waters
Minnesota photography is so compelling that you’ll have to remind yourself to take your camera from your eye, so you can enjoy all the wonder that you and your family will experience there. The Twin Cities of Minneapolis/St. Paul are a very cosmopolitan metropolis with many attractions, but many of the city inhabitants spend as much time as possible in the state’s great outdoors. They seek the same adventure, peaceful settings and opportunities for Minnesota photography that you will whenever you visit the state.
Consider creating a Minnesota photography album that contrasts the cosmopolitan and the wild. The Twin Cities may simply be from where you launch your fishing, hunting or camping expedition to the north, but you should spend some time in the cities with your camera.
Minnesotans enjoy the outdoor environment, even in their biggest cities. That’s why they created the Great Rounds Scenic Byway in Minneapolis. This series of linked parks and lakes may be the best way to see much of the city by car, walking and biking. Your Minnesota photography will capture images of the Downtown Riverfront, Mississippi River gorge and, of course, Minnehaha Falls made famous by the poem, Hiawatha.

Before you fill your Minnesota photograph album with pictures of your northern Minnesota adventures, don’t overlook other regions of Minnesota. You can discover all the state has to offer following its twenty-two scenic byways.
For example, the portion of the Great River Road that follows the Mississippi River southeast from the Twin Cities will reveal a quite different river ecosystem than the Mississippi of steamboats and bayous. The Upper Mississippi Wildlife and Bird Refuge is a nature photographer’s paradise, with one of the nation’s best bald eagle sites, plus many migrating birds. Other scenic byways will reveal the western prairie country or the beginning of the lake country in central Minnesota. All of them offer amazing scenes and family fun for your Minnesota photography.
The final (and maybe only) destination for your Minnesota photography is the spectacular northern portion of the state. For anyone who craves the serenity and once-in-a-lifetime adventures of the Great North Woods, this region of Minnesota acts like a giant magnet. Every conceivable kind of outdoor activity is available here, during every season of the year, which means your Minnesota photography album will start to bulge quickly.
The three major wild areas of the north are the Chippewa National Forest, the huge expanses of state forests and the enormous Lake of the Woods on the border with Ontario, and the Superior National Forest along northwest Lake Superior. For a more leisurely, relaxed visit, travel the many scenic byways in these northern regions. Take a more rugged path or waterway into what is some of the most pristine and truly wild country of the lower 48 states for scenes and vistas of Minnesota photography that maybe no one has ever recorded.
There’s too much to do and see throughout the vast North Woods for this article, but all of it is prime Minnesota photography.
