Spring photography classes through Saugatuck Photographic Workshops are now available.
Workshops include classroom sessions with lectures and discussions, photography field trips, individual tutoring and portfolio critiques. Classes include beginning, intermediate and advanced training courses for photographic software programs, Photoshop and Lightroom and a multi-day workshop at Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore.
The spring schedule is posted at SaugatuckPhotographicWorkshops.com.
Founded last year by Saugatuck photographer James Cook and his wife, Kathleen Miller Cook, Saugatuck Photographic Workshops is an ongoing source of photographic education with curriculum for all levels of enthusiasts from absolute beginner to professional.
“Photography is a challenging mix of technical and artistic skills,” said James Cook. “It doesn’t have to be complicated and overwhelming though and we’ve been thrilled by the response to our style of teaching in trying to keep it fun and informative.”
Classes include:
• “Basics of Digital Photography” is geared toward those who have a Digital SLR camera and are just getting started or have yet to take their camera out of auto mode. This course will help photographers use the additional controls, learning the coordinated use of aperture, shutter and focus, raising each participant’s understanding and comfort with their camera’s capabilities. Tuition is $90.
• “Beyond the Basics of Digital Photography” is open to those know how to change shutter speeds, aperture and shooting modes on their DSLR and want to know more about when and why to choose one over another. The day long class, with shooting exercises and a group critique, teaches participants to evaluate situations, consider the desired results and to confidently apply the controls and creativity necessary to achieve them. Tuition is $90.
• “Introduction to Photoshop” covers the most commonly used Photoshop tools. It teaches the basics of color and demonstrates a simple work flow to fit just about every image for basic corrections, color balance, cropping and straightening. Tuition is $65.
These introductory courses will be offered on a rotating schedule with special advanced courses such as HDR Photography, Creative Vision, Panoramas and Lightroom also offered in the coming months.
